You are not your brand

Related to “personal branding” I like the title of this article:

talent is the brand

Without actual talent (or thoughts), is there any use in “positioning yourself as the thought leader in your industry”?

In Finland we have mixed feelings about personal branding. Basically (a generalization), we are really reserved and don’t want to talk about our achievements if there’s no hard facts. Sometimes even if there are. So, in a way it’s good because you get less bullshit. On the other hand, our talents remain pretty much invisible, which is not good either.
